Wow, this week just flew by me. Tons of hockey action, tons of work, the gym and just life in general. All good but it leaves me little social time on Sugar and FB catching up with friends. Oh well.
I don't want my Penguins, Capitals, Red Wings or Ducks friends to think that I am ignoring them or their teams. I know your eyes and your allegiances are glued to the tube and are firm with the heart of a true hockey fan!
I love Saturday afternoon hockey action! And this afternoon the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., is full of speedy skating and at this point in the game, a tied score 1-1.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were the first to score on a great read by Billy Guerin to perennial young star and team captain, Sid the Kid Crosby. At that point, it seemed as if the Capitals were having trouble penetrating past the blueline and the Pens have been extremely good at denying the Caps chances. They have been monsters on the forecheck! A clinic for any young player to take notes!!
Crosby vs Ovechkin--Two the NHL's most dynamic young talents!
Wow, I must say that I love watching the enthusiasm that Alexander Ovechkin plays; I think to myself, wouldn't our world be a much different place if everyone had that type of passion for life and for their work? He plays to win and this isn't saying that Crosby doesn't either--they are two young stars with very different personalities. At times, Ovechkin can seem over the top but I love that he gives it all on the ice.
So for now, after a 5 on 3 powerplay, the Caps lead the game with a brilliant goal by Ovechkin. The shots on goal through the first period were 11-8 in favor of the Penguins, with the Pens beginning the second period on the PP! This game isn't over yet, it is exciting and everything that fans of the game want Saturday's action to be!!!
The score is 2-1 in favor of the Caps, but I expect that to change several times throughout the second and third period action on this Saturday known more for the 135th Running of the Roses! The NHL is showcasing its two thoroughbreds of hockey and they are not failing to disappoint! Mint juleps, anyone?

So ticked at myself right now... I thought the game started at 3pm on NBC only to turn on the channel and see that it started at 1pm.
At least I am still able to see a bit of the game (3rd period 13 minutes left.)
Praying the Pens score another goal (it's 2-3 at the moment) to tie-it-up and take the Caps down.
1Lee:
So sorry you tuned in late! And sorry that your boys lost. God, this was a fantastic, action-packed game. I was on edge until the final buzzer. I think this is a well-matched battle between these two teams. It could go a full seven.
Hope you had a good birthday!
2Alex Ovechkin does play with a lot of passion, plus he's got mad skills and plays tough. He's so exciting to watch. I missed most of the game, I got stuck babysitting my BF's nieces and nephews.

3Lee - I did exactly the same thing as you only in reverse!! I thought the game started at 1 p.m. western time but it was eastern time so I only caught the last few minutes of the game
I really wanted to see the game! And believe it or not the same thing happened with the Canuncks
game
I thought it was strange it started at 9 my time, so I've missed the 1st period and
half of the second, at least I'm tuned in now!
I caught up on the Pens game online - thank goodness for the net! Great game but I wanted the Pens to win.
By the way glam - love your avie
4LeE, this game has gotten crazy. I really thought your boys were in the driver's seat and now all of a sudden, the 'Hawks have woken up. I kept thinking that I was dislikely Coach Q's "dump and chase" and then I walked into the kitchen and I listened to the first goal being scored. The third period should be WILD, don't you think. I know you are a bundle of nerves, I would be too but this season, I have the luxury my boys sitting at home watching the games just like me. 'Tho the thought of Capt. Joe possibly retiring completely bums me out. Okay, they are about to drop the puck!
5Whew, sorry for all the bad grammar in the last comment! Eek, I was writing so fast, almost as quickly as this game has changed momentum. Wow, I just can't believe how it seemed like the Canucks seemed like they were just standing around watching Patrick Kane backhand the goal in. It happened so quickly.
LeE, what are your boys doing? They had this game firmly in control.
6Oh, this is just so depressing. Vancouver was completely in charge and now they're losing it or should I say Luongo is losing it. It's got to be difficult for him to keep playing knowing he's let 5 goals slip through his gloves.
7I don't know Maise. Chicago has been playing a clean game so there hasn't been much of a chance for Vancouver to have the advantage on power plays.
Stranger things have happened but I can't see Vancouver scoring 3 goals in less than 10 minutes.
8Powerplay for the Blackhawks.... sigh.
9Sorry that the game turned this way LeE! I only came back online because I thought you would be ecstatic with the way your team was playing so well and fully in command of the game. I hope I wasn't a big jinx
(((( I just thought it would be fun to chat with you knowing that you were
having such a good time watching your boys play.
There are about eight minutes left in play, so if they lose this one, the series is 1-1. This round will be hard but it takes 4 games to take the series and head on to the Western Conference Finals. Game 5 will be so important, so don't give up hope. This is only the beginning of the roller coaster playoff ride. Get your beauty rest when you can, 16W to hoist Stanley Cup is wearing but exhilarating.
Don't fret and don't get down!
10I hate when games get out of control and end up being decided by PPs. I love having a PP here and there in the game, but this game has been dominated by stop and go, PP/PK. It makes the game time feel uneven. I can only imagine how crappy and stunned all those rabid, Canuck loving fans feel in the stands.
11I love that they are playing the Sex Pistols in GM Place!
12Maisie - I feel like I jinxed the game
When I started watching - they were up by 2.
It helps to have someone to go through this with
Uh oh - tensions are high - things are getting ugly.
13It's weird to have the fans go silent, so much so that you hear all the chatter on the ice.
14YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15If they didn't score with 5 on 3 I would have been ticked though.
16Less than 7 seconds - this has been a hard game to watch.
17If I was a drinker I'd take one of those mint julips right about now - 1 part mint, 10 part vodka!
18Haha! I almost sent you a gift of a "martini" to help you make it through the game! They will be better on Monday night. It will be tough as the game returns to United Center but just remember, this is only the beginning and you don't want them to sweep (well, it would be easier on the nerves) because you want them to get good play in for the next round. We have a ways to go yet! So take a deep breath and relax.
19Yeah, the Pens game was exciting. Much back and forth between each teams net. Game 2 should (or better
) have a different outcome for Pittsburgh. Both the Caps and Pens look to be full of passion for this round.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire 3rd period and could barely look away since every time I attempted to do something (as simple as pour a glass of water) I would hear the announcer starting to get hyped. Then I would run back to my seat and try to follow who had the puck (it seemed to be passed around like a hot potato, lol.)
20Thanks LeE.
