Wow, this week just flew by me. Tons of hockey action, tons of work, the gym and just life in general. All good but it leaves me little social time on Sugar and FB catching up with friends. Oh well.

I don't want my Penguins, Capitals, Red Wings or Ducks friends to think that I am ignoring them or their teams. I know your eyes and your allegiances are glued to the tube and are firm with the heart of a true hockey fan!

I love Saturday afternoon hockey action! And this afternoon the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., is full of speedy skating and at this point in the game, a tied score 1-1.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were the first to score on a great read by Billy Guerin to perennial young star and team captain, Sid the Kid Crosby. At that point, it seemed as if the Capitals were having trouble penetrating past the blueline and the Pens have been extremely good at denying the Caps chances. They have been monsters on the forecheck! A clinic for any young player to take notes!!

Crosby vs Ovechkin--Two the NHL's most dynamic young talents!Crosby vs Ovechkin--Two the NHL's most dynamic young talents!

Wow, I must say that I love watching the enthusiasm that Alexander Ovechkin plays; I think to myself, wouldn't our world be a much different place if everyone had that type of passion for life and for their work? He plays to win and this isn't saying that Crosby doesn't either--they are two young stars with very different personalities. At times, Ovechkin can seem over the top but I love that he gives it all on the ice.

So for now, after a 5 on 3 powerplay, the Caps lead the game with a brilliant goal by Ovechkin. The shots on goal through the first period were 11-8 in favor of the Penguins, with the Pens beginning the second period on the PP! This game isn't over yet, it is exciting and everything that fans of the game want Saturday's action to be!!!

The score is 2-1 in favor of the Caps, but I expect that to change several times throughout the second and third period action on this Saturday known more for the 135th Running of the Roses! The NHL is showcasing its two thoroughbreds of hockey and they are not failing to disappoint! Mint juleps, anyone?
